This is my MOM in her kitchen in the early 50’s,about to put a pan of home-made biscuits in the oven of her first electric( kenmore) range. An old wood cook stove once sat there in that spot!(notice the cast iron Kettle on the range,a black cast iron frying pan and the old aluminum coffee pot which was used to perk coffee on the old wood stove,a grease cup used for storing left over grease ,the new electric perculator plugged into the new range and the aluminum salt and pepper shakers. (Aluminum was the newest craze in the 50’s)
i had just purchased my first kodak camera with flash and i took this picture of my mom and i cherish it even this day. I am so thankful that i was able to take this inspiring photo!
Mom looked so neat in her apron then. You don’t see folks wearing them in their kitchens now-a-days.
My mom’s biscuits were always the best but with some fresh butter and home made jam, they would melt in your mouth!
There is a calendar on the wall above the electric range and i’d give anything to be able to digitally enhance the photo enough to be able to read the month and year on the calendar!
I know that i was about 15 years old then, so it had to be early 50’s!
Mom had one complaint about my photo…see the trash can on the lower right?...it was one of those that had a pedal to step on and it opened the lid. She thought that it was just terrible to show that trash can in the photo. That was my mom and i loved her very much and i miss her too!
